One of my supplement stores is through a professional group called Fullscript. There are always putting out new educational handouts and other resources, and I am happy to share some of them with you!
This one is for a simple bone broth recipe. This recipe can act as a base for a soup with other healthy ingredients, or can be used as a topper to tempt dogs who may not feel well and don’t want to eat. Pouring a little of this over their regular meals may help.
On that note, see my article, “Is Your Dog ‘Picky?” Whether we want to admit it or not, I am quite sure that when a dog rejects a certain food, there is most certainly a good reason for it.
Anyway, back to the bone broth. This one uses just chicken or beef bones and apple cider vinegar (which should always be the unrefined kind “with the mother.”) But you can most certainly use other bones – turkey, pork, etc. Just a reminder to not give your dog cooked bones, which can cause blockage or impaction. Bones with lots of meaty stuff and cartilage on the outside are great, as all of that will dissolve into the broth, adding more nutrients. This may even be helpful for dogs with arthritis or other mobility issues.
