On the Bone Cooking for Dogs

We dog parents know not to give our dogs hard, cooked bones because they can get stuck in the throat or intestines — not good! But what about bones that have been cooked down to a deliciously mushy batch of nutritional power?

Bones are loaded with minerals including calcium and lots more. If you cook them down long enough, they become soft and are safe for dogs to eat. This can be accomplished by slow cooking.

Or even if you don’t serve the actual bones, there is some wonderful stuff attached to them, including collagen, which turns into gelatin. This is a wonderful natural source of protein, glucosamine and minerals.

Once you learn how to utilize bones in your recipes, you will be doing your dog a favor! You might even get hooked yourself on this flavorful, incredibly nutritious aspect of home cooking. Contact me with questions, and see some of my examples of dog food cooked with bones.
