Four Mile River Farm Features Dog Food Coach in Newsletter

I am proud to share this recent article from Four Mile River Farm, a family farm in Old Lyme, CT offering quality beef, pork, chicken, more. The folks are FMRF kindly featured me in their latest newsletter.

On their website, they wisely state, “For so many of us, FOOD EQUALS FAMILY.” I couldn’t agree more, and that includes our furry family members!

Enjoy the article,

This week has been full force.

Getting the kinks out.

Which mostly means I’ve been driving around with multiple toolboxes in the truck, checking equipment that’s been sitting all winter and figuring out what works and what doesn’t.

Trying to get everything dialed in again.

After this winter, seeing the grass start to grow feels a little extra special.

We’ve got a new group of hens in a new coop, and they’ve taken to fresh grass right away.

Doing really well.

They’re a bit different than the broilers.

Kind of like a smarter, leaner, faster cousin.

Last week I shared a friend down in Guilford who focuses on nutrition for people.

This week, another one—also from Guilford—but this time for dogs.

I’ll let her introduce herself:

“My name is Sarah, and I am the founder of Dog Food Coach, a project to help people improve their dogs’ lives through better nutrition.

I’ve been studying human and animal nutrition since 1996 and earned my MS in Nutrition in 2016. Since then, I’ve continued with additional certifications and courses in animal wellness.

I’ve also fed my own dogs a variety of whole foods for many years and have seen the health benefits firsthand. One of the reasons I first purchased from Four Mile River Farm was for bone broth and soup bones for myself, and dehydrated beef liver for my dogs. I recently added the beef liver into a batch of dog food, and they really loved it.

I’m available for diet reviews, custom recipe formulation, and other services to help people and their pups live long, healthy lives together.”

We make a lot of things for dogs here—bones, liver, broth—but if you’re trying to really dial things in, that’s the kind of person you want to talk to.

A few days ago we also opened up our CSA for the year.

We made a couple changes that should make it more useful.

You can now mix and match 5 lb boxes.

Chicken, ground beef, sausage.

Same idea as before—this is how you make sure you actually get what you want before things sell out.

Which is already happening.

We’re out of chicken breast and thighs for a few more weeks.

We do have whole birds available, but that’s exactly why we run these yearly subscriptions.

There just isn’t enough to go around once things get moving.

Being on that list and reserving ahead is the way to do it.

And in the meantime, we’re still trying to push grill season along.

Burger flights are back.

King of the Cookout.

Sizzle and Supper bundles.

Whether the weather agrees or not.

That’s it for this week.

Things are moving again.
