Is there a connection between flea and tick collars, and upset bellies in some dogs?
It is fun to be out in beautiful natural areas, but we all worry about pests.
This month I am discussing allergies and sensitivities, which seem to affect our pets in a vast way. After all, they are constantly bombarded with chemicals, processed foods, medications, environmental burdens and more.
Time and time again, I find feeding a clean, simple homemade diet can turn things around quite nicely. BUT… it is so important to determine the source of what is causing a reaction like diarrhea and other digestive upset.
Case in point: Over the last several months, I have had two clients with dogs experiencing repeated bouts of diarrhea, with no medical issues present and no known cause. Thankfully, holistic vets were at the helm in these cases and they suggested removing the flea and tick collars the dogs were wearing. The clients were then sent to me for dietary improvement.
In both cases, the dogs got better after the flea and tick collars came off and the body was able to get healthy again.
After all… what goes into the body makes the body react, for better or worse.
Unfortunately, fleas, ticks and other pests are a problem. But it is important to keep an eye on any patterns or connections we see regarding products and reactions. It is also important to then improve the diet, so our dogs are stronger and therefore have a chance to stay healthy.
My goal is to help you and your dog with a truly nourishing, supportive diet. Visit my Services page for options.
Thank you!

PS – Have a golden retriever? See my article on golden retriever sensitivity. Here’s an excerpt:
“How many times have I heard people talk about how sensitive golden retrievers are… does that sound familiar to you? There have been so many occasions where I have heard about goldens being prone to skin problems, digestive upset, cancer, heart disease, allergic symptoms and more. But it doesn’t have to be that way!”
