Milk Thistle for Liver Support, Skin Health, More

Milk thistle and its active constituents are famous for addressing liver health. But milk thistle is used for other issues, too, including skin problems, cancer and more. Studies and results indicate it helps stimulate production of healthy cells to replace damaged cells.

Milk thistle is included in many well known detox formulas, or it can be used on its own. It is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hepatoprotective (or liver protective), and choleretic herb (or one that helps increase bile flow in order to help release toxins), notes Susan Ring in the American Holistic Veterinary Medicine (AHVMA) Journal. You can visit the AHVMA site here.

Dr. Susan Wynn notes in the same AHVMA article that milk thistle is usually offered in a standardized extract of 70-80% silymarin, and should be used for at least 8 weeks before seeing remarkable results in biochemistries.

That said, my recent case study demonstrated to me that topical (on the skin) milk thistle showed almost immediate improvement, with a visual difference in skin and subdermal abnormalities within about 24 hours.

Dr. Wynn says one of the most researched products is called Thisilyn. The case I conducted did not use Thisilyn, but another brand in capsule form. The capsule was broken open and powder was applied to skin. You can see my available milk thistle products and other items in the Supplements section.

Here are the milk thistle items I am currently recommending. More options may be available upon request – just ask me.
