Omega-3 fatty acids are well researched and respected for many reasons. These include aiding in heart health, inflammatory issues and so much more.
I am happy to share with you an educational handout provided by Fullscript. It highlights types, sources, supplement information and more. I hope you find it useful, and you can always shop around my Fullscript store for quality supplements.
One of the most important pieces of info I see in this handout is that source matters. There are certain plant-based sources of omega-3, but they are not processed in the body as efficiently as animal-based ones. I always choose anchovy and sardine based ones, because they are excellent sources, and they are low on the “food chain” meaning they are less likely to be contaminated with heavy metals and other contaminants. Very important!
And regarding supplements, I can’t stress enough how important it is to purchase quality ingredients from reputable sources. There are a lot of counterfeits, aka knock-offs out there. That helps nobody, and can even cause harm. You can read more on my supplements page, and contact me with questions. Many fish oil items have been found to be rancid (aka rotten) and again, this helps nobody and can cause harm. It is important to find fresh, high quality items that have been tested by a reputable source.
I didn’t know about counterfeit and quality issues until someone told me. So, I hope I can now pass that on to you. It is important for yourself as well, when you are shopping for your own supplements. Don’t automatically choose the largest, cheapest, fastest way because it may be a knock off, or quality-compromised.
