From Vets – Replace at Least Some Kibble With Fresh Foods

It was so rewarding to see a recent article from vets Dr. Karen Becker and her colleague Dr. Donna Raditic, both holistic vetst and co-founders of the Companion Animal Nutrition and Wellness Institute (CANWI). The article states:

We strongly believe that most dogs will benefit from the replacement of at least some portion of their highly processed foods with a fresher alternative. Certainly, the evidence suggests that for dogs with allergies, chronic osteoarthritis, diabetes, or other chronic diseases, replacing highly processed food with a fresher alternative is likely to improve their health and longevity. Why not give it a try?”

What great advice! After all, when it comes to our own diets, we are constantly reminded that we should eat more whole foods and less processed foods. The same is true for our furbabies.

I have been home cooking and advocating fresh, whole foods for pets since about 2007, after doing a lot of research and talking with many progressive, open minded veterinary professionals. It was great to see this latest suggestion from two such well known and respected holistic vets.

Dr.Becker continues:

Research shows that providing any amount of healthy foods to dogs and cats is better than no healthy food at all … Every bite of food your pet swallows is either healing or harmful; all foods impact the body in some way. The more minimally processed foods your dog or cat consumes, the better.

Like these vets suggest, why not give it a try?
